One comes across interesting items as one surfs the Internet...by the way, did you know that the term "surfs the Internet" came from a woman? Jean A. Polly coined the term back in 1994.
Surfing refers to the feeling you get when you jump from page to page on the web, similar to jumping from wave to wave while surfing in the ocean."
Back to Jane's surfing this past weekend...
This short ditty at "Study finds women better than men at holding their liquor." The study reports that, "There is a general supposition tht women don't hold their liquor very well but our results show that it is the men who become uninhibited and get a high more quickly." The research was performed by scientists in Kentucky, so the article states. Apparently the report is included in a publication called, "Addiction." Jane is not sure this is a good resource or merely an urban legend in the making.
On another note, further investigation this weekend led Jane to this report from Reveries, which has a report called Cool News. In checking our forgotten email ( we were experiencing email issues when this report came in), we learned about Lawyers 'n' lattes, where lawyer, Jeff Huges, thinks "the middle class has been neglected" when it comes to services from members of his profession. Mr. Hughes runs a classy joint named "Legal Grind" which serves coffee and dispenses legal advice in 15 minute increments, for $25.
Legal Grind is located in Santa Monica, CA. Of particular interest is the creativity with which Mr. Hughes names his coffee drinks; i.e.: "Law'ttes" and "Cop'uccinos." We wonder what Matt Homann, Dennis Kennedy, and our own Tom Collins, think of this idea. Gentlemen?
Our last note of the day also comes from Reveries, Cool News of the Day. The title caught our eye immediately (and made us think about RealBeer)... "Man Caves." In a report from The Wall Street Journal, reporter Kara Swisher (we like her name...swish, swish...miss kara), writes about changing the concept of traditional female products such as washing machines and refrigerators to include men in design and focus. A real "cave man" concept. This idea comes, apparently, from Maytag, complete with a website that opens with a flash movie and lots of cheering in the background...pretending to be a sporting event, we assume.
All of which confused Jane since Maytag is already associated with men...isn't it the Maytag Man, not the Maytag (Wo)man?
We leave you, dear readers, to figure out the details. Interesting things out there...some of which are lady magnets -- some of which are experiments in digital advertising. Visit the Maytag site...for a laugh, if for nothing else. That's all Jane has to say on the subject.
We wish you a marvelous Monday.
What's not to like about that?
