Two interesting news items we found in our local paper today; one in the Sports section-- NO! Jane does NOT read the sports section, we just glance at it, and this caught our eye. The second was a little blurb (should be a full page, so we think) on the inside of section one, under "Newsmakers."
FYI -- these are both excellent content for YOUR blog or website, to show women you're at least paying attention to items that interest us...
1. From Golf.com, "Wie narrowly misses cut," (this news report is attributed to several other publications, but we preferred to bring you this one).
"Michelle Wie battled to the very end Friday, making two birdies on her final three holes for a 2-under 68 that left her one shot short of making the cut in the Sony Open." At the age of 15, this seeming disasterous failure is really a monumental success. This young woman has a lifetime, yes, a lifetime of sporting success ahead of her. No doubt! Who wants to bet on her making the cut next year? (call your bookie, Jane does not endorse gambling but we enjoy speculation.)
2. From our local News column, on the inside front cover, a short note on Princess Aiko of Japan, who is now 3 1/2 and challenging the Japanese throne. For more information on how this energetic child is turning Japan topsy-turvey, click here.
The article we are quoting from says, "With no male heir in sight, a government panel is expected to call for Japan to scrap a 1947 law that forbids female heirs from ascending to the Chrysanthemum Throne."
This is truly a BIG DEAL for women's rights in Japan. The story says, "...[this] would provide a symbolic victory for women's rights in Japan and enrage the country's small but influential nationalist right wing." (applause all around, thank you)
The power of possibility -- captured in the tiny hands of a little girl who just wants to play and sing and dance.
What's not to like about that?
