Wow...what a find! Thanks to Mary, who commented on my post asking every woman who is a small business owner to call or write her Senator...
I was going to write about the movie Ratatouille, as I received a copy a week ago and watched it last weekend, and it comes out on video Tuesday...but the rat will have to wait. Mary turned me on to something far more valuable and important to all Lip-sticking readers, and their friends and family.
Mirassou Winery, located in California, has been in business for over 150 years, crafting "uniquely expressive wines made with equal parts optimism and California sunshine." The website is outstanding, with a background of soft yellow (feels like sunshine) and pictures of vineyards, wine, food, recipes, and more.
But wait...the best part of the company (well, the wine is no doubt the best part...and I'm thirsty for some now), is its focus on women and women in business. This story of Henrietta Mirassou is one that should be on every woman entrepreneur's bulletin board. Her story should be told around networking event luncheon tables, and at women's gatherings everywhere.
To honor her and her ability to become "the first woman to single-handedly run a vineyard and winery"... there is a contest on the site for women entrepreneurs. Do YOU have a business idea that could use $50,000? Then, get thee over to this site and enter the Make Your Dream Come True with Mirassou contest. You deserve it.
Don't wait...don't contemplate...if the business contest isn't for you, maybe the wedding contest is. I wish you good luck!

Following up several hours later to say that I bought a bottle of their wine while I was out shopping. If I like it, they'll definitely get my patronage from now on, just for being so cool.

What a great story and wonderful program for women entrepreneurs. I've forwarded the link to my sister, who is in the process of starting a business and might very well qualify for the contest.
