Watched Enchanted, F-I-N-A-L-L-Y! I can't believe how long that DVD sat on the dresser waiting patiently for me to pop it in the DVD player.
Well, the daughter from Buffalo, my baby girl, Maggie, came up for the weekend (baby shower for a niece) and we decided to watch it, at last. The son's girlfriend, Laura, had already seen it but she reserved comment, so we could all come to our own conclusion on its merit.
I have to say...it was a slow start, the cartoon part wasn't as engaging as I expect...but, we're grown-ups, I 'spect kids would love it...but once the movie got going, once Cinderella, or the character of Cinderella (not really Cinderella, she's a combination of a number of Disney cartoon gals) pops into NY...the movie got interesting.
By far the best part of the whole thing was the outrageously funny chipmunk! He had us roaring! I think he deserves a movie all his own. (hey, WAAAAayyyy better than the 'rat' movie I talked about back when...)
The plotline was thin - the character of Cinderella had to convince, well, she didn't 'have to'...she just did... a lawyer that "dreams really do come true." In her little cartoon voice, with her big blue eyes and her unshaken belief that she was right.
So, I admit that we got distracted now and then - like when people in Central Park started singing and dancing (hey, we should have known that would happen, it is a musical, after all), but we settled in and enjoyed ourselves as the movie flowed along. It was sweet and cute and funny. A good all around family movie for folks with young kids, and for folks who want a little whimsy in their weekend. I also found this review helpful, calling the movie whimsical.
Buy it or rent it and have a ball. Cinderella did!
