Social Media Campaign Raises Awareness of Violence Against Women

Two weeks ago I wrote this post about The United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) and their Say NO To Violence Against Women. Their goal is to raise one million signatures by November 24th to take a stand against this important cause. On November 25th UNIFEM and Goodwill Ambassador Nicole Kidman are planning to present these signatures to the UN Secretary General - General Ban Ki-moon.

I thought that Lipsticking would be the ideal blog with the ideal audience that would get passionate about a cause like this, especially one that is being promoted through social media and blogs. So, I'm very disappointed in the number of signatures that we've gotten so far. There are only two signatures assigned to this widget, mine and Yvonne's. Where are the rest of the readers here that I know are active contributors to this blog?

I just received some updates on the campaign and so far more than 580,000 people have added their names. This is an enormous show of support, yet they are still aiming for 1 million signatures. So today I'm inviting you again to sign up for the cause and also to ask you to spread the word further and encourage 3 friends to sign up. You can ask them to join an ever-growing movement of people who demand that violence against women be a top priority for governments around the world.
