Life is hectic around here - I'm wondering where this recession I keep hearing about is? On twitter, the best of the best are sharing links to free webinars on how to manage in a down economy (Mari Smith, Denise Wakeman, Susan Getgood, Dana Vanden Heuvel, Chris Brogan, I could go on) and I try to offer a few bits and pieces of inspiration myself, from time to time.
On Lip-sticking, the goal is to help you with your business (mostly if you're a woman owned business, but also if you have products and services to sell to women) and also to mention current events and issues, because the issues of the world are part of women's lives, as much as cooking dinner, or changing the bed, or dressing the toddler for daycare.
So, in honor of Mother's Day, although I will also have a post ON Mother's Day, let's get moving with some link love:
The Fresh Air Fund wrote to me to ask if I would remind people that the Fresh Air Fund is in need of host families. When I was a teenager, my older sister (who was married) invited kids from the Fresh Air Fund up every summer. These are kids who might never get to experience a true rural experience, or even just get away from home... "Host families," the note said, " are volunteers who open their hearts and home to a child from the city to give thema fresh air experience." Are you able and willing to be a Fresh Air Family? Give it some serious thought...
Back on April 24th, Rhonda Shasteen from Mary Kay announced the winner of the contest she held asking readers to pick the tagline for her new blog. I have been remiss in not sharing that information:
The votes are in and we have a winning tagline for the Mary Kay blog. Congratulations and thanks to each of you who contributed a tagline suggestion, and also to those who took the time to vote.
The winning tagline is Reflections: The purpose and passion behind Mary Kay products and people
This tagline was originally submitted by Kim Howe Beams as "Reflections: Look in, reach out! Discover the purpose and passion behind Mary Kay products & people." (Wow!) Rhonda also writes, "When we went through the process of narrowing down all the submissions into the 13 finalists, we did some editing in order to make some of them shorter, but still maintain the essence of the thought."
Very well done, Rhonda. (have you visited the blog - it's really a testament to Rhonda and Mary Kay, and I admit I am biased because I have always loved Mary Kay products, but... I challenge you to tell me the blog isn't top-notch!)
For my last link today, I ask you - what are you getting your Mom for Mother's Day? Most Moms don't "need" anything - unless they're new Moms, and congrats if that's you. For my Mom, and even for me, trinkets aren't necessary. Jewelry is nice, but not necessary. Being taken to lunch is priceless because it's time with the kids we adore! But, in the end, the one gift most Moms just LOVE...is flowers.
Recently 1-800-Flowers allowed me to recognize a group of Moms everyone neglects, and I was delighted to do it. These are the Pet Moms. You know who they are. They dote on their dogs or cats or other pets just as devotedly as regular Moms dote on their litte ones.
At 1-800-Flowers, they gave me a neat code to offer Pet Moms (or, those who buy for Pet Moms) a discount...until Mother's Day.
Hop over and click the green button on the left-hand sidebar. Give your bestest Pet Mom some flowers this weekend. She'll be so tickled you thought of it - it'll make her whole day as bright as an August afternoon. Go on...do it. Tell her I sent you.
