This Sunday Super Bowl XLIIwill be broadcast from New Orleans not only on the CBS TV network, but viewers can also watch it on their small screens. We can even listen to it on Sirius radio if you happen to be in your vehicle. So not only do we get to watch the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers go at it, but also Madison Ave. who will fight it out in another Ad Bowl. Two main consumer categories will again dominate the ads this year, automobiles and beverages.
Even though Pepsi is a huge advertiser this year and is sponsoring the halftime show featuring Beyonce, Coca-Cola is also back. Last year if you recall, Coke tried something new with their popular polar bears who reacted in real-time to the Bowl game’s activities and ads. Viewers got engaged by sharing their thoughts and comments to the bears’ reactions via Facebook and Twitter. So Coke learned a bit from this and is taking it one step further with this year's campaign called "Coke Chase".
The premise of the campaign is to allow viewers to determine the outcome of a “chase” in real time, along with the content of a post-Bowl commercial. The ads feature three groups of people lost in the desert; “cowboys, showgirls and badlanders". They come upon a mirage of a Coke in the distance and then compete to reach it first.
Viewers are invited to vote on who will win the Coke Chase game by visiting Cokechase.com from any screen (mobile, tablet or desktop) to view the ads and vote for their favorite team via YouTube. The winning group and all results will be revealed
in a TV spot immediately following
the end of the Super Bowl. Here's a peak at the Cowboys sabotage clip that is being promoted today on Coke's Facebook page.
Who remembers the good old days of blogging? When blogs and bloggers were scary to big and small businesses, everywhere? Blog? Not them! They didn't want anything to do with those loud-mouthed, obnoxious, gossip-mongers who were cluttering up the web with their 'chatter'.
I remember them well. I remember arguing with many a CEO about blogging - shortly after Lipsticking was launched. I saw the power of the written word being used to communicate beyond telephones, TV, ads in magazines, and more. I realized that forming personal relationships online was a good thing, not a scary thing. Those who were willing to listen, and try it for themselves, often found my teaching to be truthful. Others, who didn't much like the whole online communication thing, did not.
The nook I used to sit in on cold winter afternoons, with a book propped up on my knees, was halfway up the stairs, in the old house of ours. It was a small house. A tiny house by some standards. But, I was only 12 and had nothing to compare it to, so I thought it was grand.
There I'd be, on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, curled up in the corner of that nook - the windowseat covered with a soft cushion that barely offered comfort to my skinny bottom. The door to the downstairs was closed. We kept it closed in the winter, to keep the warm air downstairs. I would pull a blanket up around my shoulders and cozy on down into it... keeping that book propped up just so... just so I could lose myself in it and be one with the story.
The final two teams to make it to Super Bowl XVLII have now been determined. For the first time in Super Bowl history we will see two brothers face off against one another as head coaches which will take place down in New Orleans on February 3.
The Baltimore Ravens' John Harbaugh and San Francisco 49ers' Jim Harbaugh are providing this great brother vs. brother pregame storyline in what now is being called "Harbowl" or "Superbaugh". I'm just curious to know who their parents, Jim and Jackie Harbaugh, who currently live in Santa Clara, California, will be routing for!
Pizza Hut launched The Hut Hut Hut Contest offering winners the opportunity to star in their commercial that will run during the CBS Super Bowl Pregame Show just minutes before kickoff. The Contest was initially launched on December 10 on the Pizza Hut Facebook Page and was accepting entries up until this past Sunday. Pizza Hut is in the process of contacting the winners now.

The business side of building and maintaining a successful
company takes a lot of energy. Add in additional responsibilities like family,
home maintenance and special interests, and it makes for a pretty full schedule
for a business owner. For most small business owners, however, the work that
they do is about more than turning a profit. The ideals of a business and the
ideals of its owner are often interchangeable. Finding ways to run a socially conscious
business is important to many owners. For some, this means selling locally-made
items or only using fair-trade materials. For others, social consciousness is reinforcing
your small business’ core values in the form of community outreach and
charitable donations.
If you are looking for ways to give back under the umbrella
of your company name, here are some tips to get started:
I don't actually know why women like shoes so much. But, we do. I know that we like multiples of many things - different colors of the same blouse or pair of jeans and tons, yes tons, of different colored lipsticks (no, they are not all the same color and if you can't see the differences, well... you're not a girl).
We like to change up our bedclothes on a regular basis. I'm looking for a new bedspread for spring/summer right now. Something bright and colorful, to dress up the bedroom.
The history of women's shopping habits is an interesting web topic, but to say you understand why women buy, or how they shop, is a risky comment. You may 'think' you understand why the women in your life shop - your wife, or sister, or mother, or daughter; but do you really? Even if you followed them to their favorite store and watched them shop, you'd come away as clueless as ever - because each shopping trip is different than the one before.
This past weekend we got to witness some great NFL football playoff games, with the first on Saturday between the Denver Broncos and the Baltimore Ravens which went into overtime. Unfortunately it didn't quite end the way I wanted and we now won't have a Manning in this year's Super Bowl Game.
We're down to four teams standing: Baltimore Ravens vs. the New England Patriots in the AFC and the San Fransisco 49er's vs. the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC. Who will make it to the Super Bowl XLVII game on February 3 in New Orleans this year?
Last week I started my review of promotional marketing campaigns focused on this year's Super Bowl game with this blog post: Are you ready for Super Bowl XVLII? The marketing hype has begun. As is tradition with my posts, I'm going to continue covering some of the marketing hype up to the big game!
Wonderful Pistachios will be joining the list of Super Bowl advertisers for the first time with a 30-second spot featuring the now famous Psy, star of the “Gangnam Style” video that was the first to break 1 billion views on YouTube. This will also mark the first time that Psy will be in a U.S. TV ad which will air in the game’s third quarter.
The ad won't be previewed prior to the game, but according to Marc Seguin, VP of
marketing for Wonderful Pistachios, it takes the brand’s long-running “Get Crackin’” campaign to new levels which he reported that they have invested more than $100 million in the four years that it’s been running.
From The Editor's Desk: If you're a runner and you love to run for both your health and a cause, consider this!

It's January and that means were now in the playoffs of the NFL season and looking forward to Super Bowl XVLII which is scheduled to be played on February 3rd at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, home of the Saints. The game will be broadcast by CBS which has been charging a record high of $3.7-$3.8 million for each 30-second ad. Some of the big brands have already started rolling out their marketing campaigns. To help get the most for their money they again are including sweepstakes and contest promotions. Here's a look a couple of them.
Pepsi has teamed up with Beyoncé who has been chosen as the top performer for the Super Bowl halftime show. The Pepsi Super Bowl XLVII Halftime Show Promotion launched on December 29th and invites participants to enter by uploading images of themselves in a series of specific poses that may be used in the on-air intro video as Beyonce takes to the field.
