MS Run the US Puts Out Call to Endurance Athletes: Calling Rochester Runners

From The Editor's Desk: If you're a runner and you love to run for both your health and a cause, consider this! 

Only 10 Coveted Spots Available in Distance-Running Relay Adventure to Benefit Multiple Sclerosis

The estimated 70,000 individuals who are distance runners or athletes involved with the MS cause, are invited to take part in an upcoming adventure relay race. The MS Run the US 2013 Relay, which is slated for April 16th through September 6th and will be divided into 22 segments, is currently seeking 10 Running Partners to take part in each leg of this coast-to-coast run. Each segment covers approximately 140 miles of running over the course of six days. All proceeds raised will support MS research. The never-before-done aspect of the relay will also raise awareness of multiple sclerosis.

Women's History Month: 5 Automotive Trailblazers

March is Women’s History Month and what better way for a car insurance company to celebrate than by honoring some significant women in automotive history? Esurance did a little digging and revealed the following list of automotive pioneers:

• Next time you flick on your wipers, thank Mary Anderson, who was granted a patent for the windshield wiper in 1903
• Alice Huyler is the first woman inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame
• Silent film star Florence Lawrence invented  turn signals and brake lights
• On New Year’s Day 1915, Wilma K. Russey became the first female New York City taxi driver 
• In 1943, Helene Rother became the first female automotive designer. A French jewelry designer, she was hired by General Motors to fashion elegant interior designs.

Considering that at the dawn of the automobile era, women didn’t have the right to vote and were often deemed fragile and timid — certainly not capable of running (or repairing) heavy machinery — we really have come a long way, baby. "After the proposal Michael had arranged a surprise engagement party," Deidra said. "All of our friends were there. We took lots of pictures and everyone gave their congratulations."
