A Friday Fit by Five: Marketing to Women Online
July 13, 2007
Five resources to visit and muse upon. For your marketing to women pleasure:
Over at Biz Report, two items...
Women at a loss without web access: According to reporter Helen Leggatt of BurstMedia, "Female Internet users in the U.S. aged 25 years and over are so reliant on the Internet for researching products and information that 66 percent would suffer disruption to their daily routine if they were unable to log on." You can believe this just by hopping over to Blogher and taking time to read some of the blogs there. All women - all online - all married to it, in one way or another.
Also from Biz Report, Younger generation can't live without Internet. Kristina Knight says a study "from New Paradigm, has found that 77% of the net generation could live without television but could not live without Internet access." Other reports, from industry pundits, have been saying this for awhile - and it rings true. Kids today are into instant connections, instant feedback, and control. They get it on the basic net, and on the mobile net. And, a whole lot of'em are... female.
For those engaged in social media, such as this blog, back in May the E-Commerce Times reported that the "social gatherer" is looking for connections and interaction. Specifically, "...for social shoppers, the journey can be more important than the destination."
This is very relevant to behavioral marketing and providing an "experience." Without knowing weho we are, more than what we want, how can you sell to us?
More recently, from eMarketer, (citing BurstMedia), the story is Web Wins for Women Shopping Online. The stat is 54.5% of women use the web when researching products. Okay... this is news? The report further states that "Online shopping increased with household income." Oh, puh-lease! How grade school is that? Who didn't know that?
The only useful information here is that travel is the top category women seem to be searching on. Can you say GirlFriend Getaway? I was just chatting with a friend of mine who is headed to Italy this fall...on a girl friend getaway. She found out about it in an email offer.
My final Fit by Five bit of Friday Advice is to remind all that... the holidays loom. You should be planning your Christmas campaign NOW! You should be charting your course, setting sail, knitting the net that will pull in the most sales.
Get to work...and Good luck!
