The Wild Hogs Ride!
August 14, 2007
The category for this post should really be Fun with the BOYS... I had the chance to watch Wild Hogs over the weekend on DVD - and if you don't have this movie in your movie library go and get it now!
I can't remember when I've laughed so much! Comedies today are usually tasteless, IMHO.. so I was leary of this one. However, I cannot resist a John Travolta movie. He's the best thing to come along since... since... Godiva Chocolates! I had high expectations of him and he delivered. His character, Woody, is classic! But... to my dismay, Travolta did not carry the movie, William H. Macy carried the movie. HE had me at... "Watch out!" A shout I couldn't resist, very early in the show.
Here's the scoop, four middle aged guys, distressed with a mid-life crisis and families that either aren't tuned in or are too busy to notice, decide to ride the road... on their Harleys. (I have to admit I was comparing this movie to movies from the bygone era of the late, great Jack Lemmon ...now there's someone who knew how to be funny on camera!) Of course, the 'dudes' get into all sorts of trouble...some predictable, some not. The point is, they're believable. They do stupid things that make you laugh out loud... they maintain their true character personalities while trying to be biker dudes. And, of course, they cause mayhem all around them.
And, throughout, the most fun is with Dudley, the Geek, played by Macy. Of all the characters, he matched his in look and feel to the point that I almost forgot I was watching a fictional story. When he finally got the girl - and then left her behind, I was really bummed!
Love the story, love the acting, love the comedy. The trouble with the biker gang they run into (literally, in more ways than one) was a bit far-fetched, but it played to the comedic parts of the movie. Travolta takes the applause for that. And, Ray Liotta was just outstanding.
Okay...I've said enough. Why aren't you clicking over to the DVD site and ordering Wild Hogs, like now?
Laura, now I'm drooling! I will definitely be checking out that chocolate site!
Mary, did YOU get to see any of the movie being filmed? What fun! And you are so right, Macy is just an outstanding actor.

And, large parts of the movie was filmed right here in New Mexico (John Travolta and crew tied up downtown Albuquerque for days). They also filmed extensively in Madrid, NM.
Travolta is one of those stars you just can't help but watch (and like)
Nothing like a good old-fashioned silly movie - and I'd pay to watch Macy read the phone book.

The movie might be fine but if you want really heavenly chocolates, Godiva is good but John and Kira's chocolates are beyond words http://www.johnandkiras.com/
I discovered them while I was in Philadelphia (where they are based) and was smitten by the mint when I discovered it tasted like real mint - like real mint leaf. Just incredible. I also like their bid to do good in inner city Philly by having the local school grow the mint. And it's not just me who thinks this, their chocolates were deemed the best by none other than Gourmet magazine (I don't know why I'm telling yout this, you are just going to eat them all now, aren't you?).
FYI... I have no link with John and Kira's except for being a raving fan. You'll understand what I mean when you taste one.
