Cookies Aren't the Only Thing "Uncommonly" Good
November 05, 2007
Received a great promotional email yesterday. I am not sure why I receive emails from this company, except that I expect I visited them in the past year...and likely signed up to get info from them. Anyway, the company is called "uncommong goods" and the subject line in the email was: "Best Thing Since Sliced Bread."
I definitely wanted to see what they thought was the best thing since sliced bread, so I opened the email. Mind you, I had no intention - at that point - of doing more than viewing the email. However, once I opened the email I saw the image included here... of sandwich and soup in a tray, together. "How cool!" (it also made me drool because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE tomato soup with toasted cheese sandwiches!)
You know what I did next - I clicked the image and it took me to a landing page where I could buy the product that's the best thing since sliced bread. And, it reminded me of why I like this site - it's totally female-friendly. It has great navigation across the top, including "this just in" and "wish list," and it has links for home decor, dining, desktop, jewelry and more. A veritable department store of interesting and unique items.
I also love the left-bar navigation that mimics the top-bar navigation. And, the color of the site... a deep blue with green accents, appeals to me. But, one of the neatest things about the site is that with the soup and sandwich tray, they offer a history of the sandwich. The story of the 4th Earl of Sandwich AND... an explanation of mustardarius. Oh, do click over and discover that for yourself - because there are further treats in more stories (ever wonder about PB&J? They'll tell you.)
It doesn't get better than this. I don't see any Web 2.0 kinds of interactivity - other than a contest for the "Uncommon Costume Contest" which is kewl...
My recommendation to uncommon goods is to start blogging... Until then, the site rocks as is, and I give it a 10 on the Dick-e-meter. Doesn't get better than that!
