Link Love Sharing: Six Foot Six and Counting

IGirlsgogreen could never share everything that comes across my desk, on a day to day basis. So many wonderful people write to me to tell me about new projects, family, books, and the things they're doing that they think might be interesting to you, my special readers...that I am quite buried in content.

This is not a bad thing. I enjoy hearing about the new and exciting things everyone is up to. I'm often inspired by these talented people. How could I not be? The world is teeming with innovation, new products that support the environment, new ideas to make life easier, better, more productive, and opportunities to improve inwardly - by meditating or looking for your Inner Samurai, as my client, Susan Reid will say.

The only way I can really share all of this, is through a Link-love post. And so... here you are:

Suzanne Falter-Barns of Blast O' Joy wants the world to know her Taos Writer's Spa is in its 7th year. That's a celebration worth shouting about. Of course I had to mention her and the spa... after all, writing is my joy. (have you taken our writing conference survey yet?). The spa is in late July, and being held at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Looks tres' inviting.

Over at Betty Confidential, there is a wealth of information all about women. I love their Kissing Frogs page!! Here's what a recent press release they sent me said, "Betty Confidential isn't just another website for women, it's an event -- THE event for navigating life as a modern woman."

Do we need another site "for" women? Not sure. You decide.

Speaking of "another site for women"... I just helped launch a blog for entrepreneurs who are women. A local professor at the Simon Graduate School of Business noticed that women were seeking advice on how to start businesses, but coming up short, so he asked the Dean if he could start a blog. The http://www.webatsimon.com/ launched a couple of weeks ago, and it's rocking and rolling! The writers are all local to Upstate NY, but their advice is good no matter where you live. Check it out. Ask them a question. They love questions!

ColleensmithThe most compelling content I've received in recent months is information about Colleen Smith, a six-foot-six female volleyball player. (yes, that's her on the left) Colleen is in tip-top shape...but who wouldn't be, playing volleyball at Olympic levels, as she does? I applaud her commitment to her sport, but I want to share her other commitment...

She's also keen on helping the environment. Colleen is a go-getter, she's an astonishing athlete (according to the pics I see on her blog, and her background info), and she wants to "make living green fun and easy for everyone."

Colleen is looking for sponsors. Let's spread the word and get her a sponsor. She deserves one, or two... her energy is contagious. Her outlook on life is inspiring. And her talent is obvious. Plus, she's into working with kids to help them learn how to be green. If you or someone you know can help her spread the word -- she's willing to wear your logo on her "booty" as she says. I say, go for it. In fact, go for it in a big way. It's the future of our kids and our planet that's at stake.

Enough link love for today. Next week I'm going to talk about Unleashing Ideas: Global Entrepreneurship Week. That one has to be a post of its own. Come on back next week for that one...you won't be sorry.

An update on Colleen. She still works on trying to get kids motivated to ride bikes and work in home or community gardens so they develop good and green habits. She also tries to spread a little happiness when she meets strangers on the street and made a little video:

Hi Yvonne

I'm one of Colleen's supporters and want to give an update. She was sidelined by a non-volleyball injury last season, but has been making a large effort this year. Her green program is going on and she is trying to document it. A big thing she feels she can do is getting kids (and hopefully their parents) involved in home or community gardens as well as getting outside and walking, running, playing and biking more. If they realize short trips don't require cars, maybe they will not use them as much when they are older.

Her blog has some nice pieces on it: http://www.6footsix.com/

I'm another supporter of Colleen. This is the right way to teach kids and Colleen is genuine and totally awesome. She is a bit humble, but Jheri isn't - if you are looking for a great way to do some good, send her a donation! If you know if an honest company that is above greenwashing, tell them you know where they can find a warrior.

Yvonne, thanks so much for writing about Colleen. I am one of her first sponsors - helped pay for the temporary tattoos - because I instantly felt she was on to something important. Now I'm urging her to blog and tell the stories of her experiences more often (in fact, I need to write her today!) Your link love is great help. THANK YOU!
