These are the 'ideas' that keep me going... share and share alike, if they also resonate with you.
"Do what you can, where you are, with what you have." ~ Unknown. This is on a small plaque on the bookcase near my desk.
"We are remembered not by what we take with us, but by what we leave behind." ~ Unknown. On a small plaque next to the quote above.
"Women are the real architects of society." ~ Harriet Beecher Stowe (not written anywhere in my office...just in my head)
"I finally got it all together...but I forgot where I put it!" ~ Unknown. On a plaque near my desk... reminding me to try and get organized.
"The important thing is not to stop questioning." ~ Albert Einstein. On a plaque near the other two quotes.
And, of late, when I was reading an article in Fortune Magazine, I came across this quote from Eileen Fisher (New York Fashion Legend): "Don't Pretend To Know It All - If you act like you know it all, then no one will tell you anything. If you say you don't know, people come forward and want to tell you. People like to give advice and help."
w00t! True confession: I don't know anything! Well, I don't know everything. I know a little. I try to share that little here. But, I know that I don't know...everything. So, I rely on you to tell me...what you know or what you need to know.
Fisher also says, "Accept perfect enough. We've adopted the saying 'Let it go - it's perfect enough.' Often the first time you produce a garment or work with a new fabric, you have to tweak it. In the mistake is the next success."
Powerful. Leads me to Art as Action where their next performance, in Denver in November, is Beautiful Mistake. Have you ever made a Beautiful Mistake? Obvioulsy, Eileen Fisher has. Celebrate it - share it - tell us what you KNOW and what you'd like to LEARN.
