Dad's Day Deals and promotions are here again!

By Guest Blogger, Donna DeClemente, Donna's Promo Talk

Don't you just love the month of June? The days are long, the gardens are all in bloom and we still have the whole summer to look forward to. It's also a very busy month with graduations, weddings and Father's Day which is this Sunday, June 17. We aren't being hit over the head from marketers this month as much as we were about Mother's Day last month, but there are still plenty of Dad's Day deals out there now.

Fetc_logo_standardSome of our clients have created "June" related themes for their recent promotions. One of them is a small, but fast growing, fashion and beauty site called FASHIONEtc. They originally started running some sweepstakes off their site late last year offering readers a chance to win prizes from one of their advertisers. The advertiser provides the giveaway prize as part of the ad package and gets the additional exposure. FASHION Etc.'s goal is to raise their subscriber base and it's been working so well that they are now running a new sweepstakes just about every two weeks.

FashionEtc-LiftLuxe-Gift-CardSome of the prizes have included handbags provided by Ann Taylor and Coach and jewelry from Roberto Coin and Plukka. This past sweepstakes FashionEtc-LiftLuxewas different however since it included an advertiser targeted to a male audience. FASHION Etc. partnered with LiftLux.com, an online men's fashion site, and awarded a Father's Day $500 Gift Card to use in their online shop. Also, everyone who entered received a discount code good for 20% off anything from LiftLux.com. So they were able to use the holiday and the sweepstakes to bring on a new advertiser. Plus, they gave their women readers an easy gift idea for the men in their life.

FashionEtc-HipstripesFASHION Etc. is also using the sweepstakes to help grow their Twitter and Pinterest following. With each sweepstakes they encourage participants to follow them on Twitter and tweet about it. If you check out this week's Sweepstakes with Hipstripes you'll see the Share on Twitter invite which includes the following pre-written tweet: "I just entered to win a pair of @Hipstripes #readmyhips To enter @FashionEtcNow #giveaway: http://bit.ly/hipstripes".

On Pinterest they have created a board called "Giveaways" in which they feature a pin of each of the sweepstakes they have launched. This encourages others to repin to their boards and spread the word about the sweepstakes which drives people back to the FASHION ETC. site to enter. FASHION Etc. hasn't done a Pinterest specific promotion yet, but we're talking about it. So hopefully we will launch one soon. They also have a Facebook page which will most likely be included in future promotions as well.

So this is just another good example of how a business can tie in their marketing to the current season with promotions and social media. If you would like to share any promotions that you are doing related to the summer, I would be glad to feature them here as well.

For this Sunday I will be celebrating Dad's Day with my husband, the father of our two daughters who are both not living at home with us this summer. So it looks like just me, along with our dogs and cats, will have to try and make it a special day for him. My dad lives down in South Carolina and I am overdue for a trip, but just can't swing it this month.

I wish a Happy Father's Day to all the dads!
