I'm declaring that September is the new January. If melon is the new black when it comes to fashion, why can't I declare that I begin my "Happy New Year" in September? The humidity is waning, the nights are cool, the days are beautifully warm, no snow is falling and I feel a new sense of purpose.
Like much of the general population I make New Year's resolutions in January -- the dead of winter when the daylight is non existent and I have been shivering since November. I vow to lose 10 pounds, walk or exercise more, etc. Well, when it's so cold, all I want is comfort foods -- heavy stews, gravy-laden dishes, mashed potatoes, warm cobbler desserts. Who's losing weight with that diet? As for walking? Well one of the last times I walked in the winter I ruined my knee and needed surgery; my motivation to walk in the snow and on icy sidewalks is at an all time low. Join a gym? Well, there are a few around here but since I feel like a dork and don't really know how to use the equipment at the gym all I ever do is the treadmill. It seems an excessive amount of money to walk on a treadmill, right?
Join me in my declaration of September is the new January. Make your resolutions now while the days are still long, the sun still shines and the comfort foods aren't yet beckoning!
